Headache Chiropractor Surrey

Many patients at the Pro Chiro clinic in Surrey visit due to experiencing painful headaches. Nearly all of us will suffer from occasional headaches, some more than others. There can be a genetic factor to headaches but likewise there are also many lifestyle reasons as to why someone may experience a headache. Josh French, sports chiropractor at Pro Chiro, stated “As a Surrey Chiropractor, headaches seem to be one of the most common problems I help patients overcome.”

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has defined the structures responsible for headaches. These include:

  • The Neck
  • The Scalp Muscles
  • The Brain Covering Sheath

Did you know… Chiropractic treatment can be used to treat chronic headaches and according to a study carried out in North America, Europe and Australia approximately 10% of all chiropractic patients attend for the treatment of headaches.

Headaches can be caused by….

  • Dysfunction of the joints in the neck
  • Physical Trauma
  • Emotional Stress
  • Nutritional imbalance
  • Dehydration
  • Visual Strain

Sometimes in rare cases, headaches and migraines can be a sign of more serious problems, so if you suffer from recurrent or chronic headaches it is often good to seek professional advice.

Did you know… There are two common types of headaches

  1. The first of which is tension headaches, these are caused by cramps or spasm in the muscles surrounding the skull.
  2. The second are neck (cervicogenic) headaches which are caused by problems of the joints and muscles in the neck referring the pain into the head.

How does chiropractic treatment help headaches? Chiropractors will use a variety of specific manipulation or adjustment techniques in order to stretch, relax, mobilise the neck joints, strengthen the neck muscles and remove any spinal irritation or tension. A big part of a patients recovery from a headache will also be in identifying any lifestyle factors that may cause or contribute to the headache, and finding ways that the patient can correct these factors.
